FBI Post - Knoxville

“It seems to me like we should be looking at this Rossi woman,” Agent Bennett said to his new Special Agent in Charge. “This isn’t our first go-round with her, or even our second, for that matter.” He filled him in on the Sheila Ford escape from Dana’s custody during a prisoner transport.

“So that’s one incident,” the SAC said. He got up from his desk and paced to the window. He was annoyed at being stuck inside on a half decent spring Saturday.

“That whole deal stemmed from a go around her and Crane had with the locals down there in Gatlinburg. Ford apparently shot and killed a woman, but the locals didn’t solve it. They ruled it as an errant hunting shot. Those two came down here, supposedly,” he made air quotes, “as tourists and they solved the crime that put her away.”

The SAC turned back to face Bennett. “What’s Rossi’s background? Why would Crane use her to do prisoner transport without taking a whole lot of heat over it back home?”

Bennett shrugged and tipped backward in his chair. “Beats me.”

“Then do your homework and get on it. Let’s find out.”

Not the least bit chastened, Bennett went on, “I’m thinking we should put surveillance on her. It all seems a little too pat to me. Too many coincidences. They’re down here again and right smack in the middle of another big mess.”

“I’ll authorize that, but you’ve got to do the background. No cutting corners. All of the statements we have from the bank personnel said there were four males. My thinking is, Crane would be having us try to geo-locate her if she was in on the plot.”

“Unless it’s to throw us off,” Bennett said.

“Any hits on it?”

“That’s what I’m saying. Not so far.”
